Full Support with Residential Care

Full Support  is given to those children who have no other possibility of being cared for, other than to be retained under Navajeevan’s direct care in Group Care Homes ,with Navajeevan as the Government approved ‘Fit Facility’. This is fortunately the smallest % of rescued children, involving mostly orphans and children from migrant families.

The Bridge School of Chiguru – A Children’s Residential Village on the edge of Vijayawada.

During the year April to March 2020 Chiguru supported 205 children (135 boys & 70 girls). They are mostly the rescued street based children/runaways from home, child labourers, child- victims of violence especially girls, from broken families, etc. They belong to the most marginalized families whose situation at home, at the moment, is not in their best interest – unable to provide a stable environment for their happiness and all round development; in some cases detrimental to their safety and security. Among these, the CWC (The Child Welfare Committee) referred 104 new children (76 boys & 28 girls).

During the year:

41 (36 boys & 5* girls) mainstreamed into regular schooling

57 children (37 boys & 20 girls) got home integrated

107 remained at Chiguru as on 31st Mar 2020.

Of these 107 remaining children, 47 (30 boys & 16 girls) are home-placed abruptly on account of the Govt’s COVID directive, and are being followed up as part of the Family Strengthening

Programme (FSP)/’Manam’ project.

5% dropouts – out of 205 children from the most marginalized communities/families (but all were

motivated to re-join)

23 Govt officials from child welfare departments came on 13 visits to Chiguru and interacted with children and staff, as part of providing supportive supervision to the Chiguru Team.

*The lesser number of girls going for regular schooling is because the girls continue their bridge course for a longer period in the secure atmosphere of Chiguru and they get directly admitted to higher classes as per their age.
